New dentist awarded Delta Dental Foundation Community Commitment Award
$25,000 award recognizes dentist’s efforts in improving oral health
in high-needs community
Lina Torres, DDS, a recent graduate of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), was recently awarded the $25,000 Delta Dental Foundation Community Commitment Award for her commitment to provide muc
h needed dental care to children and adults in a designated high needs area in Ohio.
“The Delta Dental Foundation is proud to award Dr. Torres the Community Commitment Award,” said Teri Battaglieri, director, Delta Dental Foundation. “This award recognizes his dedication to increasing access to care in a community where children and adults might otherwise not be able to receive the dental care they need.”
Torres was selected for the award by faculty at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine based on her commitment to work for at least one year in a high-needs community immediately following completion of her dental education and licensure requirements. Torres was also selected for her dedication to community service and strong academic record while at CWRU.
Torres will be working at Destiny Dental in Cleveland.
"Lina Torres has a long history of community service. Born in Bogota, Colombia, she was taught the importance of giving back to the community and helping those in need. Bogota, a city of haves and have-nots, taught her the importance of caring for the underserved and promoting healthy lifestyles from an early age,” said Dr. James Lalumandier, Professor and Chair, Department of Community Dentistry at CWRU School of Dental Medicine. “I was not at all surprised when she took a position at Destiny Dental, a dental clinic on Cleveland's Westside focusing on the undeserved population."
Torres is originally from Bogota, Colombia, but did all her undergraduate and Master studies in Miami.
