Lakewood native receives top honor from Delta Dental Foundation

Dublin, Ohio— The Delta Dental Foundation recently honored Dr. Sarah Jawhari of Lakewood, Ohio with one of two prestigious Student Leadership Awards for $1,250.
Dr. Eli William of Mississauga was the second recipient.
Jawhari is a 2017 dental school graduate of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and was selected for the award because of her exceptional character and ability.

She completed her undergrad from CWRU with degrees in Chemistry and English.
“Sarah Jawhari understands the responsibilities of leadership and willingly assumes those obligations,” said Philip C. Aftoora, Director of Students Services. “Her willingness to lead and her unquestioned integrity has earned her the trust and respect of the faculty and her fellow students.”
Jawhari led the student body as president of student council for the 2016-17 school year where she was an outspoken advocate for the student body.
Beyond the dental school she worked collaboratively with the medical school at CWRU and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine with the aim of reducing health costs by providing interprofessional primary care and reducing emergency room visits for high-utilizing patients in underserved neighborhoods.
Throughout both her undergraduate and dental school years, Jawhari has continually demonstrated effective leadership coupled with a sincere desire to serve her community and her peers.
Since 2001, the Delta Dental Foundation has granted an annual Student Leadership Award to at least one senior dental student from Case Western Reserve University, the Ohio State University, Indiana University, the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit Mercy.
