Improving Children's Health
One of the many ways we are helping to improve the oral health of underserved Ohio children is through the grantmaking of the Delta Dental Foundation. Grants are made to community-based organizations that provide dental treatment and/or oral health education to children who have limited access to regular dental care.
The following are examples of programs the Delta Dental Foundation has supported in Ohio communities:
Mobile Dental Clinic Provides Free Care to Columbus Schoolchildren
The Delta Dental Foundation awarded $450,000 to The Ohio State University College of Dentistry’s Health Outreach Mobile Experience (H.O.M.E.) mobile dental coach program, which provides free dental care to Columbus' children in need. The H.O.M.E. Coach is staffed by 3rd and 4th year dental students as well as College of Dentistry faculty and pediatric residents from Nationwide Children's Hospital. By working closely with Columbus Public Schools to treat children with limited to no access to regular dental care, the mobile coach offers a tremendous community healthcare resource while enhancing the educational experience of Ohio State's dental students.
Delta Dental also sponsors a youth mouthguard program for young people participating in sports camps to promote the importance of wearing a mouthguard to protect against mouth injuries and concussions.
